Rumor has it that Rangers are one of the few teams that have been given permission to talk to soon to be free agent center Mats Sundin about a contract.
Dumb, Dumb, Dumb Bloggers.
First of all, the Rangers dont need a center, they just signed Gomez and Drury to long term deals and they also have Brandon Dubinsky whose on of the best young centers in the game. They also have Blair Betts who should be a perennial Selke award contender (just like Henrik Lundqvist should have won the Vezina this year) and they also have a number of young centers in Hartford who have NHL potential, Korpikoski, Anisimov ect. So exactly where would Sundin fit in the lineup??
Besides the fact there is absolutely no need for him unless a trade is made, I would be shocked if he doesnt either re-sign with the Leafs at some point or sign with the Canadiens who will definitely make a hard push for him.
Ok.
So there is some credibility to this..
Sportsnet.ca –- The New York Rangers were granted permission by Maple Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher to talk to free-agent-to-be Mats Sundin before the Montreal Canadiens were last week, Sportsnet has learned.
Sorry Mats, great player, hall of famer, but New York is no longer the place for greats to come and die. It isnt 1998 anymore, its 2008. If this happens it would be a huge step backwards in the progress of the organization. The team already has players more capable of playing center, no need to overpay for a soon to be retired star.
